Do you have the qualifications to become a good teacher?

What makes a good teacher? Personally, I think that a good teacher is caring, understanding, knowledgeable, accepting, challenging, adventurous, spontaneous, and fairly organized. I also think that every teacher should have something special they bring to the table. Everyone is unique and I think that teachers should be able to incorporate their talents and passions with their students. So, what do you think qualifies a teacher to being a good/great teacher, and do you think you possess those qualities? p.s. I think I possess the qualities I stated were necessary to be a good teacher.

Would you rather

Would you rather have a family/mom/parent who never came to school functions and basically ignored all your letters or calls and seemed as if they were unintrested in their child's schoolwork?
or
Would you rather have a family/mom/parent who was always in your classroom trying to help out. Constantly sending you notes or reminders about the lessons you should be teaching and giving you pointers on how to do your job. They even call you at three in the morning to talk to you about their child's schoolwork and what you will be teaching them the next day?

Who was your favorite teacher and why?

I have had a lot of great teachers throughout my education but if i had to choose one it would be Mr. Tucker. He was an amazing second grade teacher. He use to tell us riddles and stories all the time. When he read us books, they came to life. One time he even had an after school activity where our parents were intived to make tie dye shirts with us, make "homemade" ice cream, try to guess the sents in the covered bottles with our noses, and some other activities. He was amazing. What made him so amazing is that we, the students, really felt loved. He took our attention and no one wanted it back. So here is my question, who was the teacher that touched your life and how?

Expenses on Schooling

I was reading The American Dream and the Public School today and I couldn't help but want to share this quote. "About 47 million children are in public k-12 schools, almost 90% of the school age children in the United States. In 2001, it cost about $390 billion a year from all sources to educate them- more than defense and not too much less than social security." When I thought about that it changed my perceptive on the school system. For the longest time I thought that the no child left behind law was unfair, that their school won't get money from the government if their students can't pass a test. I though how unfair to give the already smart students more money. How could the government turn their back on the most needy students? After reading that quote however, I thought differently. It seems that the government is trying their hardest, they DO understand how important school and education is, they just need a different system. So now I'm wondering, does anyone have any ideas of how all this money $390 Billion could be spent more wisely, on more students? All students deserve a fair and equal education, so why should some get more funding then others? Is there any way to have all schools equal, that is without an uproar?

My first blog

Hi, and welcome to my blog. Thanks for dropping by, feel free to respond to anything I write and I will be sure to answer you as quickly as possible. My name is Liz. I am going into Elementary Education. I am currently attending college to become the best teacher I can be. I taught in a preschool for about a year as a lead teacher so i know alot about teacher and children already. The most important thing I know is that kids just want to have fun. I believe that it is my job to make sure they do, while learning. It can be as easy as making something from playdough and asking the child how many shapes they see and the child is learning about shapes. That is just one of the things I think would be good for students, I'll keep you posted!
